We announce Nemuer’s attendance at Slovenian Floating Castle Festival (Plavajuci Grad). It is a very special event where international art in all forms and kinds meet.
We will perform at the castle stage 4th of August 2017.
It is our honour to announce that Nemuer were confirmed for Lumous Gothic Festival, the largest goth fest in Finland and the northernmost Gothic festival in the world!
It takes place in Tampere, and Nemuer will perform 15th of July.
It has been some time since we started working on our third album. We have been very enthusiastic about the theme and came up with the name very early on.
The third album’s name is “Gardens of Babylon” and it is set in the ancient and mystical Babylon!
We would like to release it late in autumn 2017 or winter 2017. Stay updated!
What is Irenthoth’s Dream album about, what is its meaning, how and why it came to existence, and who is Irenthoth?
I (Michael) will try to discuss these questions while avoiding spoilers regarding the book as best as I can.
Book? Yes, Nemuer’s music is the official soundtrack for my upcoming fantasy book. Each album corresponds to one chapter of the book.
Although we think music do not necessarily have to have a given definite meaning, we know you would like to know more about our debut album. I think it could lose some of its magic if explained to much in detail and it is best for everybody to find its meaning by themselves. Last but not the least, there are certain hidden small things in the book and in the music as well that I simply cannot reveal and deprive you of finding out yourself.
What I can do, though, is to give you a decent background that can help you understand or arise your own ideas.
Although many of our listeners connect this album to nordic or pagan music, it is essentially set in ancient Maya empire. One of the important things for this civilization is their perception of time that is similar to most of the ancient people and very different to ours. It is known that it was common to perceive time in repeating circles not as a line.
Every single track corresponds to a scene, object, or thought in the book. The album does not cover the entire story but only a selected part of it. Without saying too much I can only reveal it is set in the very “Forgotten Mountain”.
The album features several ethnic instruments: jaw harp, didgeridoo, djembe, and udu. Deliberately there are no recognizable words, and I produce sounds we call “primordial chanting”. This vocal style enhances the tribal feeling of it, since we perceive it as a link to a distant past; it also gives us space to express the unutterable–the ancient gods’ will and presence.
Acoustic guitar, the core of the entire album, represents here a certain out-of-place artifact (instrument from a different time period). It is the storyteller’s main instrument.
The whole album is a journey constantly jumping between shamanic and dreamy experience.
While some tracks had their basis a long time ago, even before I started thinking about the book (Forgotten Mountain, On The Run), others were created within a very short time in a spontaneous outburst of my creative energy and unexpressed feelings (Red Moon, Under The Tree of Memories). But they all evolved and formed to fit perfectly to the theme eventually. There was no struggle in that, it was a natural process. Some parts (mostly vocals) were created during the recording session with Jan Petrik.
“End of the World” track played a very special role in the album making and Nemuer’s direction in general. It was the newest and the most surprising track that gave the whole album and Nemuer its identity. I composed it shortly after I returned from my stay in the Northern Finland. In fact, back there I started spontaneously composing a new track that did not fit 1st nor 2nd album, but helped me to develop our style and vocal techniques. And that very technique was used in the “End of the World” track. It struck me as a great idea to use the same chords as in the opening track “Forgotten Mountain” to close the circle but close it with vigour and certain divine ferocity.
Why did we make the album? I never really felt like I had a choice. It came to me as a need more than anything else. I knew there was something strange, oddly interesting about it, and I loved it. I did not expect many people would appreciate it, but I admit I hoped there would be some. And indeed there were and there are!
And who is this mysterious Irenthoth? He is one of the main and oldest characters from my upcoming book. I regret to tell you I cannot tell you more at this moment. Join our newsletter on the right and get notified when the book is released to be among the firsts who will read it.
What is the point of creating a new genre or form of art? Why and how it can be done? Nemuer have been producing a rather unconventional music, and they are going to discuss their views and experience in this matter.
There is no key, for there is nothing entirely new. Everything we humans create is just a result of inspiration and mixture of all the various influences to which we had been exposed. It is only up to us which one we will choose, which one we will let engulf us and become a part of us.
After that the foundation has been laid and the wheels of your subconscious mind have been set in motion. Sooner or later something has to come up to the surface, and it is only up to you what you will do with it. It does not matter on the form you choose, but it is necessary by that time to have an advanced skill in something that allows you to express yourself or your subconsciousness at ease with little or ideally no restrictions.
So if you have the skill to capture the mixture that formed in your head, it is inevitable that something interesting will be created. Creative process is a chaotic happening, and when it comes to new idea, it seldom works with solid structure and reasoning. On the contrary, we think it is not entirely up to us but rather on our subconscious mind that will eventually find a harmony in the original chaos of influences. Even if you listen to your most favourite music, on your subconscious level there are probably only a few specific features that resonates with you so much. And when you come up with a new track, or with a new genre, guess what? It is based on those very features.
People like to see, hear, or feel what they already know but in slightly different colours. Then why coming up with something new? Why not to start another rock or pop band playing covers over and over again? Why not to start a Youtube channel with covers to the most famous melodies?
Well, you can definitely do that. But we guarantee you that it is much more fulfilling to actually come up with and share the music or art that comes from your within, that was made by you, and that is one hundred percent genuine.
Making covers or playing mainstream music could definitely be a way how to become this so-called professional musician or artist. It is, however, very likely that you will end up as a mere drop in the ocean and unless you really came up with something interesting, you will not be remembered in a couple of years, but more importantly you will not give anything new to this world and you will not feel good. We believe that now more than ever it is paramount to create something with identity. And making something very specific and high in quality could not only be a way how to enrich and broaden people’s taste but also to build your name and to succeed.
So we are finally coming to the answer to the question “What is the point in creating something new?”. As we see it, the point is to give people something remarkable but coming directly from your heart. It does not mean it has to be emotional, if you love strictly technical art, and you know that is where your real passion is, go for it! After all not only the listeners should feel good about your work, but above all you should. Otherwise what would be the point?
Nemuer, atmospheric dark folk duo from the Czech Republic, came into existence through the process of evolution. During ten years of Michael Mist’s musically active life, he had been exposed to manifold music styles, genres, and forms of art. He came up with various interesting ideas, but it took a long time until it crystallized into a new music genre and form of art.
The Nemuer duo was formed in Summer 2014 by Michael Mist and Katarína Pomorská after Michael returned from his four-month stay in Northern Finland. Not only did he gain a lot of inspiration there, but he also returned with a strong urge to finally put together something special, so far unheard, and release it publicly.
We think that sometimes the very impulse to actually release something is paramount.
Do not wait forever!
Release your art and do not be too afraid of criticism.
Of course, to some extent, everybody is, but you will soon understand that the very criticism can often help you the most.
Do not let yourself to get discouraged from any art you do. For no matter what people say, if it comes from the bottom of your heart, it will always find its audience.
Our next Fullmoon blog post should be published on December 14!
For many independent musicians digital obscurity can be critical. Apart from obvious reasons such as that our music will not get to the people who would have enjoyed it tremendously, it can be also very discouraging merely not to see any feedback.
Although we think that making art, music, or really anything creative should feel fulfilling just by doing it, it is inevitable to see how others see us if we want to spread the word about our project, and having feedback will inexorably help us advance.
Without being visible online, it might be also difficult to get visible in person. It is no big surprise that if you want to perform in another country or city, the organizers will prefer having somebody known at least digitally.
As you might have noticed, Nemuer’s Facebook page seems to be more dead than it was a year ago. The reason for that is not only insufficient amount of interesting content, but also a critical change in the aforementioned social network system. This change have affected everybody and caused that posts no longer get to be seen by majority of fans. It is a clever move from Facebook, because it also offers paid “solution” in form of boosting posts. You must have noticed that plenty of interesting posts get to you with delay or sometimes not at all. Do you not think it is a shame?
It has been a while since we shared some news about Nemuer, but it was not because we would be passive! On the contrary, a lot of new material have been composed since the Labyrinth of Druids album was released, and we have now much better idea and understanding about where we are heading and what we want to deliver to you.
The simple reason is that in order to share our music with other people, we cannot be totally obscure. It is not a top secret that the music we create is very far from mainstream and we do not have any publisher. We are independent musicians, and we create what feels good and intense. All we want is to get you immersed in our world of dark fantasy, eerie dreams, and mystical atmosphere regardless of whether it is for escaping the reality, relaxation, drowning in melancholy, or just to experience something that feels unusual.
Nemuer have so far released two albums from upcoming octology and we already have material for more. But in order to continue, we need your support.
Do you want our genuine independent atmospheric music to stay obscure, or do you want to help us out a bit to keep us going?
We have decided to start writing a blog and this way to tell you more about us and the work we create. Nemuer would like to cover some “behind the scenes” content, answer your questions, and reveal a part of ourselves. We will give you such posts every full-moon! So the next time it will be the 14th of November!
Even though we can fill the Internet with super interesting new content, it is futile if you do not collaborate.
This applies especially to Facebook. Since our fans do not like, share, or comment our posts, Facebook decided our posts are not interesting enough.
And then it stops showing them, and it gets only to a minority of our fans.
If you really want to support Nemuer, apart from purchasing our albums, you can help us to get resurrected digitally in the following way:
Last but not the least, if you have any questions regarding Nemuer, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Enjoy our music and immerse in the atmosphere!
With great joy we release our very first official music video for the Caves of Damnation track from the album Labyrinth of Druids.
The video and the vocals for the track were recorded in the darkest caves of the Czech Republic.
Directed by Jakub Řehoř.
Immerse in the atmosphere!
